摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a methanol synthesis catalyst having a high catalytic activity and high methanol selectivity even under a low pressure and a methanol cracking catalyst excellent in selectivity to crack methanol into carbon monoxide and hydrogen by carrying palladium on a carrier composed of a mesoporous compound. SOLUTION: The mesoporous compound used as a carrier is a porous body usually having about 2-50 nm center fine pore diameter and preferably having fine pores about 3-10 nm in diameter. As the mesoporous compound, for example, a compound containing the oxide of zirconium, cerium, titanium, silicon or the like. The average particle diameter of the carried palladium is usually about <=10 nm, preferably about <=3 nm as a measured value by the XDR method or the hydrogen adsorption method. Palladium is desirably highly dispersed to be carried on the carrier. The carrying quantity of palladium is usually about 0.5-15 wt.% per total sum of palladium and the mesoporous compound carrier.
