PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording head and a recording apparatus using the recording head for outputting as digital data outputs from a sensor element set to monitor various states of the recording head. SOLUTION: An output from an element for detecting a state of the recording head, e.g. information representing a temperature of a substrate 101, a resistance value of an electrothermal conversion body, an ON resistance of a power transistor for driving the electrothermal conversion body, etc., is all digitized by an A/D converting block 130 on the substrate. The information is outputted outside as digital information afterwards. At this time, the number of wirings and an area of the substrate are prevented from being increased by utilizing a clock signal and a latch signal used for transferring recording data to the recording head.
