PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antimicrobial ceramic comprising an antimicrobial material which has low possibility of exerting adverse effects on the human body by making a nonmetallic peroxide adsorbed on the surface of a powdery or porous hydroxyapatite. SOLUTION: This antimicrobial ceramic is obtained by making the nonmetallic peroxide (e.g. hydrogen peroxide, urea peroxide, ozone or the like) adsorbed on the surface of the powdery or porous hydroxyapatite. The composition of hydroxyapatite used here is generally Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 in which a part of Ca and a part of hydroxy group may be substituted by hydrogen, sodium or magnesium and fluoride or carbonate ion, respectively. The adsorption amount of the nonmetallic peroxide is preferably 0.0001-20 wt.%, more preferably 0.1-15 wt.%. This antimicrobial ceramic can be produced by immersing the hydroxyapatite powder or porous material in a hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution or a urea peroxide solution to bring the powder or the porous material into contact with the peroxide solution and drying the resultant powder or porous material.
