PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve reaction efficiency by preparing a catalyst for synthesizing methyl acetate and/or acetic acid from a compound which contains nickel and/or copper and has hydrotalcite structure. SOLUTION: In a catalyst for synthesizing methyl acetate and/or acetic acid from a compound which contains nickel and/or copper and has hydrotalcite structure, the contents of nickel and/or copper in the compound is 10-60 wt.%. At least one selected from tin, zinc, cobalt, chromium and iron is incorporated. When methanol and/or dimethyl ether and carbon monoxide are reacted in a gas phase to synthesize methyl acetate and/or acetic acid, the reaction is carried out in the presence of the catalyst and iodine. |
