CONTROL POSITION DETECTING DEVICE FOR VARIABLE VALVE SYSTEM OF INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a lift characteristic of a valve with high durability, in a variable valve system changing the lift characteristic by changing a rocking fulcrum of a rocker arm. SOLUTION: A control cam changing a rocking fulcrum of a rocker arm is journalled to a control shaft 16 rotationally driven by an actuator 101 such that an operation angle changes according to a rotation position of the control valve 16. A non-contact type gear sensor 106 is provided near a driven gear 90 for transmitting rotational drive force of the actuator 101 to the control shaft 16. By counting detection signals from the gear sensor 106 according to a drive direction and deciding that the control shaft 16 rotates from an initial position by an angle corresponding to the counted value, the operation angle is detected.
