METHOD FOR PASSING SHEET THROUGH STECKEL MILL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the coiling failure rate of coiling the tip part of a material in threading and to improve the yield rate of products by controlling the standby position of a coiler by predicting the intersection of the tip part of the material with the coiler from the picture of a camera. SOLUTION: The position tracking of the tip part of the material is executed using the number of revolution of a roll and predicted forward slip from the point of time when the tip part of the material is bitten with a rolling mill. When the tip part of the material reaches the position where the tip part of the material is caught with the camera 1, a timing signal is outputted to a coiling position deciding mechanism 6 from a sequence control mechanism 7. Picture processing is executed by fetching picture data at the interval of N1 ms from the timing started with the sequence control mechanism 7. The tracking data of the tip part of the material is prepared by normalization correlation processing. Using Lagrange's interpolation method on the basis of this data, the intersection of the locus of the tip part of the material with the coiler is determined. Whether this intersection is in the range where the material is coiled with the coiler or not is judged.
