PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article storing device with an improved use way, provided on the vehicle with a laterally opening type backdoor, which can open/ close a backdoor smoothly without restricting the luggage loading space in a luggage room. SOLUTION: An article storing device 20 provided on a backdoor trim 30 internally equiped on the room inner surface of a laterally opening type rear lower gate is composed of the plate 21 for a shelf provided foldably onto the backdoor trim 30 and a hold member 22 which can hold the plate 21 for the shelf so that a main body 21a becomes horizontal by falling this plate 21 for the shelf to a luggage room 13 side. At the non-use time of the article storing device 20, by locking the plate 21 for the shelf to the backdoor trim 30 in a storing state, the wide goods storing space of the luggage room 13 can be ensured. At the opening/closing time of the rear lower gate, goods in the luggasge room 13 are not interfered.
