PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymerized polyester resin that observes the FDA in no need of epoxy resin including bisphenol and satisfies the requirements in the cans-manufacturing process of sufficient adhesion to the metallic plate as the substrate, high processability and the properties as a can, for example, corrosion resistance and elution of low molecular-weight substances and a paint for coating inner surface of the metallic cans. SOLUTION: The objective copolymerized polyester resin for forming coating layer on the inner surface of metallic cans is constituted of the polycarboxylic acid comprising 50-95 mol.% of aromatic polycarboxylic component and 5-50 mol.% of alicyclic polycarboxylic acid component by using a hydroxybutyltin oxide as a polymerization catalyst, has a polymer glass transition point of >=25 deg.C, a reduced viscosity of 0.3-0.8 in 1 g/dl in a phenol/tetrachloroethane 1 to 1 weight ratio mixed solvent at 25 deg.C and an alcoholic hydroxyl group value of 2-25 mg KOH/g.
