PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a washing machine with a water suction pump capable of sucking water by itself with priming water to securely suck water by itself by detecting the existence of priming water in the water suction pump and driving the water suction pump when there is the priming water. SOLUTION: In this washing machine, electric power is fed by an inverter 37 comprising switching elements 37a-37f to a pump motor 31 to drive a water suction pump capable of sucking water by itself with priming water, and the continuity ratio of the switching elements 37a-37f and a water supply valve 7 for feeding city water are controlled by a control means 39. The load condition applied on the pump motor 31 is detected by a rotation speed detecting means 41. The control means 39 feeds priming water to the water suction pump by way of the water supply valve 7 based on the load condition detected by the rotation speed detecting means 41.
