INORGANIC PIGMENT AND WATER-BASED RESIN COMPOSITION CONTAINING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inorganic pigment highly adhesive to resin, capable of imparting favorable thixotropy to a water-based resin composition when compounded therein and capable of preventing such a composition from cracking/swelling and the like even in case of being much compounded therein and affording the composition with high chipping resistance and storage stability. SOLUTION: This inorganic pigment is obtained by surface coating of inorganic particles with at least one surface treatment agent selected from the group consisting of (A) graft copolymers (salts) each produced by graft polymerization of a hydrophilic monomer to a macromonomer with a radical- polymerizable reactive group on one end of a polymer made essentially from a hydrophobic monomer, (B) methacrylic copolymers and (C) copolymers (salts) each produced by copolymerization between a tertiary cationic group-bearing monomer and unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and/or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid.
