PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance toughness and strength at high temperatures by adding secondary particles which inhibit grain growth to a material based on zirconia using MgO or CaO as a stabilizer. SOLUTION: The high strength zirconia-base ceramic sintered compact consists of 70-99.95 vol.% stabilizer-containing substantial zirconium oxide, 0.05-30 vol.% at least one selected from a simple substance, nitride, boride and carbide of an element selected from the groups IIIa, IVa, Va, VIa, VIIa, VIII, IIb, IIIb and IVb and <=3 vol.% other impurities. |
