PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce consumption of consumable goods by reconfiguring an output image in response to designation from an operator when input data is printed. SOLUTION: When document data is inputted from a host computer 100, it is stored in an input buffer 3. On the other hand, an operator designates the degree of importance of a document under processing on a panel 4. The degree of importance is inputted to a page arrangement controller 6 in order to determine the arranging method of the document data. The document data is inputted from the input buffer 3 to a pattern generator 7 where a pattern, e.g. a character or a figure, is generated from the document data in response to a size control command 6a. A page of image of the document data is generated for an output buffer 8 from a pattern 7a thus obtained and a position control command 6b. The process is continued until a page of image is generated for the output buffer 8 and then it is printed out.
