industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: 2,6-di-tert-butylphenol is prepared by alkylation of phenol in presence of phenol-dissolved aluminum catalyst. Desired product is isolated by high-resolution rectification and then exposed to alternate cooling-warming procedures at temperatures 35.0 +/- 0.1 C and 36.0 +/- 0.1 C, respectively. 2,6-Di-tert-butylphenol is additionally isolated from by-product streams using rectification.
