PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a variable valve timing mechanism with reflecting a driver' s intention. SOLUTION: In this control device, a signal from a mode select switch is read to check a selected mode of a valve timing characteristic (S101, S103). In the case of a power mode, target valve timing VTTGT is set by use of a power mode target valve timing table TBLVTPOW (S102). In the case of a normal mode, the target valve timing VTTGT is set by use of a normal mode valve timing table TBLVTNOR (S104). In the case of an economy mode, the target valve timing VTTGT in the economy mode is set by use of an economy mode target valve timing table TBLVTECO (S105). Thereby, since a driver' s intention reflects valve timing control, a system becomes flexible to realize advanced driving environment. |
