SOLUTION: A float 29 (39) vertically movably and loosely inserted in the outer surface of a cylinder 21 (the inner surface of an outer cylinder 22) is floated on the upper surface of working oil F in a tank chamber D and a stopper 28 having a through-hole 28B formed in a lower end part and having an annular passage 28A formed between the outer surface of the cylinder and the inner surface of an outer cylinder is fixed on the inner surface of the outer cylinder 22 at height at which the float makes contact with the lower end part 28C of the stopper when a piston rod 1 is thrust in a lower area Sd. At the lower area of the stroke, the float closes the annular passage of the stopper and through communication between the upper and lower parts of the stopper only through the through-hole (an annular passage) of the stopper, an auxiliary damping force is generated. At the lower area of the stroke, an auxiliary damping force is added to a damping force on the pressure side.
