PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for detecting a combustion device by a method wherein reference rotation fluctuation data before a top dead center of a crank shaft when ignition of fuel after a top dead center is converted at a top dead center to form reference rotation fluctuation data after a top dead center, and a deviation between an actual rotation fluctuation and the reference rotation fluctuation data after a top dead center is provided. SOLUTION: A rotation fluctuation due to the compression stroke and the expansion stroke of a crank shaft when fuel is ignited after a top dead center TDC is stored as a reference rotation fluctuation data A before a top dead center. Data with which the reference rotation fluctuation data A before a top dead center is inverted at a top dead center TDC is stored as reference fluctuation data B after a top dead center. By providing a rotation fluctuation deviation dSpd between actual rotation fluctuation data C and reference rotation fluctuation data B after top dead center of a crank shaft, a fuel ignition timing and a combustion state, such as a heat generation rate, is easily detected without previously storing a number of rotation speeds and rotation fluctuation data.
