PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the workability such as the handling of a recycling material after it is pressed to reduce its volume. SOLUTION: This volume reducing device comprises a compression chamber 4 to take an open-top recovery container 5 in/out of a device body 1 via an opening/closing door 8, a throw-in port 12 to throw waste plastics into the recovery container 5, and an air cylinder 24a for compression which raises/ lowers a pressing member 21 from an upper part of the recovery container 5 to press the waste plastics, and a bag 9 for recovery is fitted to the recovery container 5 and the waste plastics are thrown therein.
