PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adipometer for use in measuring the thickness of subcutaneous fat by use of an ultrasonic probe. SOLUTION: The probe 1 is formed from high-density polyethylene into an approximately columnar shape and is provided at one end with an ultrasonic element 2 which sends ultrasonic waves. A film of titanium oxide 5 for imparting a super-hydrophilic property onto a silicone film 4 having a coat of silicone resin is applied to the surface of the other end which serves as the surface 3 of contact with the skin. The hydrophilic property is maintained since dirt components such as fat and oil clinging to the surface of the probe 1 are oxidized for cleansing at all times because of the moisture retention performance of the surface 3 of contact with the skin, achieved by the hydrophilic titanium oxide, and the effects of a photocatalyst. End-face echoes generated as the result of reflection of the ultrasonic waves by the skin are reduced and detecting accuracy can be maintained and enhanced.
