PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically set a reference value responding to the condition of a sink without requiring adjushments. SOLUTION: This automatic faucet includes: a sink having a faucet and receiving water discharged from the faucet; a light emitting part 3 which emits infrared rays toward the bottom wall of the sink; a light receiving part 5 for receiving the infrared rays reflected from the direction of the bottom wall of the sink and for forming a detection output matching the amount of light received; a water discharge output part which compares the detection output of the light receiving part with a reference value and forms a water discharge output when the detection output is not smaller than a predetermined value; and a faucet control part 1 which opens or closes the faucet according to an output of the water discharge output part. The automatic faucet is provided with a command means which issues a command signal for correcting the reference value, a detecting means 1 for detecting the maximum amount of light that the light receiving part receives, and a reference value correcting means 1 for correcting the reference value for the water discharge output part according to the maximum amount of light.
