PURPOSE: An electronic power steering is provided to make a driver select the steering power of a steering wheel by having the selection range of the steering power activated or automatically controlling the steering power of the steering wheel when the driver selects a mode. CONSTITUTION: A signal of a steering wheel position sensor is inputted to a control unit(10). An output current value to control a solenoid valve(42) is determined corresponding to the signals outputted from a vehicle speed sensor(14) and the steering wheel position sensor. A mode to determine the output current value is divided into seven stages. Depending on the output current value, the steering power is controlled automatically. If a driver selects a specific mode, the steering power is controlled by the mode. The driver selects a mode by using the button of an automatic mode(60) and the button of a manual mode(50).
