The invention relates to a method for cleaning the surfaces of hollow articles. Said method includes the following steps: a layer of working liquid is created around the surface to be cleaned; said surfaces are treated with electric pulse discharges, whereby said discharges have a frequency of at least 3.1 Hz and are created by a system of working electrodes which is progressively displaced during the cleaning. The optimum conditions for cleaning correspond to an electric pulse discharge frequency ranging from 3.5 to 20 Hz while the rate of travel of the working liquid in the cleaning area, through the surfaces of the hollow articles which are to be cleaned, is comprised between 0.01 and 1.1 m/sec. During a cleaning operation mainly directed at the external surfaces of the pipes, in particular of pipes having finned surfaces of various configurations, a layer of working liquid is created around the surfaces which are to be cleaned while the hollow article is dipped into an open tank containing the working liquid. In the case of different characters, composition and quantities of chemical coatings of various surfaces of a hollow article, layers of working liquids of different compositions are used around internal and external surfaces of the article, whereby the cleaning process for said surfaces is performed simultaneously. |
