The present invention comprises a continuous process for upstaging epoxy resins to produce resins with higher molecular weight, which process comprises: (a) continuously passing a solution of a compound having active hydrogens or reactive functional groups capable of reacting with a liquid epoxy resin, a liquid epoxy resin, an inert solvent, and a catalyst through a series of sequentially staged reaction chambers; (b) the equivalency ratios of said compound having active protons or reactive functional groups to liquid epoxy resin introduced into the reaction chambers being from about 3.3:1 up to 0.5:1; the temperature in the reaction chambers is in the range of 49 DEG C-216 DEG C (120 DEG F-420 DEG F), and increases from chamber to chamber, and maintaining the pressure at normal or above normal in said reaction chambers, and stirring the materials during the reaction thereof with a mixing means; and (d) discharging the higher molecular weight product epoxide resin or hydroxy-terminated polyether of the final stage reaction chamber. |
