SOLUTION: When input density data Din are loaded to an input density data register R0 of a register 6, ternary dither threshold data Dtha and Dthb of each pixel are loaded from an external data RAM 3 to registers R1 and R2. An ALU 9 compares input density data Din with dither threshold data Dtha to rewrite output density data '00b' of pixels, where the input density data Din are larger than dither threshold data Dtha, with '01b'. Next, then ALU 9 compares input density data Din with dither threshold data Dthb to rewrite output density data '00b' of pixels where the input density data Din are larger than dither threshold data Dthb, with '11b'.
