摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the display quality from being lowered due to a projecting and recessing region produced on an interlayer insulation layer and to obtain an electrooptical device capable of performing a picture display of high quality by arranging a light shielding layer placed along a data line so as to overlap the edge parts of pixel electrodes. SOLUTION: A data line 6a is provided between second and third interlayer insulation layers 4 and 7. A third light shielding layer 24 is formed along the data line 6a in an island-shaped, is arranged in a region between the pixel electrodes 9a adjacent to each other and holds the data lines 6a between the electrodes 9a and itself. The edge parts of the third light shielding layer 24 and the electrodes 9a are located so as to overlap with themselves in plan view. Also, the third light shielding layer 24 is placed opposite to a projecting and recessing region of an alignment layer 16. Consequently when an alignment defect is generated in a liquid crystal layer 50 by the electrodes 9a or the alignment layer 16 provided in the region, the light shielding layer 24 shields the alignment defect part. Namely, the lowering of the contrast due to a light leaking or the like is prevented and the display quality is improved.</p>
