PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio unit that can simply register a name in KANJI (Chinese characters) to a telephone directory. SOLUTION: The radio unit having a telephone directory function represented in Kanji is provided with an extract means 6, that extracts a desired name in KANJI from received character information received by a reception means 1 or received character information stored in a storage means 3, a selection means 7 that selects the stored form of the name in Kanji to a telephone directory, and a telephone directory storage means 8 that stored a name in Kanji to a Kanji bank of the telephone directory according to the selected storage form. The name in Kanji is extracted manually from the received character information and fetched into the telephone directory.
