PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a complete bar code signal by predicting a character from a combination of slight white and black bars which could be scanned along scanning lines, even when overlapping parts are few. SOLUTION: Character conversion is performed on a bar code signal adjacent to a start code SC obtained along a 1st scanning line S1, and a candidate for which character a bar code signal which cannot be converted, e.g. part of a character C2, is extracted from a code system. Along a 2nd scanning line S2, a candidate is extracted as to an adjacent bar code on the basis of the final character C2 of the 1st scanning line S1. Candidates are compared with each other, and the matching candidates are determined as the character. Character conversion is performed similarly for a 3rd scanning line. When an end code EC is detected from a 4-th scanning line S4, all data are superimposed over another to restore the bar code. |
