PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an eddy current decelerator, in which a fan for introducing air into a guide cylinder is provided. SOLUTION: A eddy current decelerator comprises a brake drum 7 connected to a rotary shaft 1, a guide cylinder 18 which is attached to a non-rotating part such as a body, etc., facing the inside of the brake drum 7, has a hollow part 25 with a rectangular cross section and is made of a nonmagnetic material, magnet support cylinders 19 and (59) which are housed in the hollow part 25 of the guide cylinder 18 having at least one sides of them movable, a large number of magnets 20 and (60) which are arranged on the respective magnet support cylinders 19 and (59) in the circumferential directions at the same intervals and ferromagnetic plates 21 cast in the outer cylinder part 18a of the guide cylinder 18 at positions facing the respective magnets 20 and (60). A braking force is generated in the brake drum 7 by eddy current induce by magnetic fields from the magnets 20 and (60). A fan 35 introducing air into the guide cylinder 18 is composed of blades 35a attached to the boss 5 of the brake drum 7.
