PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To modify stability of light output in a light-emitting device by a method where the light-emitting device controls a semiconductor optical amplifier, on the basis of monitoring light for monitoring the state of the light- emission of the amplifier. SOLUTION: Light generated in an active layer 16c of a semiconductor optical amplifier 16 is introduced into a fiber grating 14 via a light emitting surface 16a and a lenticular end part 14b. One part of the light introduced is reflected by a diffraction lattice 14a, and the light transmitted the lattice 14a is made to be incident in a light-receiving element 18 via the end part having the end surface slanted to the optical axis of a light-emitting device. Moreover, the light made to reflected by the element 18 is introduced into the amplifier 16 via the end part 14b and the surface 16a. The light introduced causes induced emission in the layer 16c and tries to perform amplifying the light. In this way, the amplifier 16 is controlled by the number of times of exposure.
