The hinge consists of outer (1) and inner (7) sections on the lens surround (2) and frame side-piece (8) respectively, connected by a pivot pin inserted through holes (4, 9). The hinge incorporates spring washers (20) between the outer and inner components, each washer having a slot (21) between two flexible arms (23a, 23b) which take the strain of the side-piece if the latter is opened beyond a given angle. The washers are made from a material with a high degree of elasticity, such as a nickel/ titanium alloy. |
