PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record only image data of a picture required for recording onto a recording medium by easily distinguishing a picture required to be recorded on the recording medium from a picture not required to be recorded on the recording medium among pictures obtained through a consecutive shot. SOLUTION: The electronic camera is provided with an image pickup means 12, a temporary storage means 16 that temporarily stores image data, recording means 17, 18 that record the image data onto a recording medium, an image display means 22 that displays a picture on the basis of the image data, an instruction means 26 that distinguishes a picture of the image data to be stored on a recording medium from a picture of the image data not to be stored on the recording medium, and a control means 15 that displays the picture on the basis of each of the image data obtained by consecutive shooting after the end of the consecutive shot and does not store the image data of a picture distinguished not to store the image data on the basis of an instruction of the instruction means to the recording medium as its control.
