The system consists of a net (1) extending down from the surface of the water for at least part of its depth, and a supporting structure (2) made up of vertical floats (3) which are spaced at intervals and have their lower ends connected by a flexible and non-tensioned heavy gauge chain (4), while the net is attached to their upper ends. The chain is of sufficient weight to resist being tensioned, and the floats are kept upright by rigid components connecting them to the bottom of the net, which is weighted by a second heavy chain. The floats have elongated bodies with holes which fill with water when submerged and allow the water to drain out when they are above the surface.
