PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electronic camera that takes precedence of photographing and recording over others in the case that a recording medium has a capacity able to record image data even when a maximum number of a file number and a holder number is detected and an automatic file name (including a holder name) is generated. SOLUTION: The electronic camera is provided with a detection means 50 detecting that a recording medium recording image information is replaced with another recording medium, a file generating means 50 that automatically updates at least a holder name and a file name on the basis of a result of the detection by the detection means 50 so as to generate at least one of the new holder name and the new file name, and a recording condition switching means 50 that selects a recording condition so as to attain photographing and a recording operation when the holder name and the file name updated by the file generating means reach a prescribed condition.
