Dyeing textile products by treatment of wet textile with suspension of water-soluble dye in hydrophobic medium, requiring reduced amount of dye and giving reduced amount of aqueous effluent

A method of dyeing textile products (I) involves: (a) wetting (I) with at least 0.5 P of water (where P is the dry weight of (I); (b) dispersing a water-soluble dye (I) in a hydrophobic medium (III) (in which (II) is insoluble) and dispersing to give a homogeneous suspension; (c) contacting the wet (I) with the dye suspension under stirring, so that the (II) phase is transferred from the bath to the water in (I); (d) separating (I) from the liquid phase, removing traces of (III) from (I) and drying; and (e) fractionating the liquid phase to regenerate (III) for recycling.
