PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of display irregularities on a PDP by initializing a nozzle to be displaced by the prescribed distance toward one rib from the center of two ribs with a controller, when X-direction shift section is driven for applying a phosphor paste to a groove between the ribs. SOLUTION: A nozzle is initialized to be displaced by the prescribed distanceΔL toward one rib from the center of two corresponding ribs, and a prescribed distanceΔL is preferably set to W/4, where W is the groove width. A phosphor paste is applied to the rib to which the nozzle is displaced, and the tolerance of the displacement in the groove width direction between the center of a groove and the nozzle required for it can be made to the maximum value (±W/4). A sensor detecting the position of the rib is provided, the controller may set the position of the nozzle based on the detection result of the sensor, and the sensor may detect the position of the rib based on an aligning mark provided on a substrate.
