PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distribute status information with an excellent data transfer efficiency. SOLUTION: When a printer receives a status request from an external device in (S501), whether or not the status information is broadcast on an IEEE 1394 bus network is discriminated (S502). When the status information is not broadcast, an isochronous resource manager is accessed to acquire an idle isochronous channel ID and a required pass band (S503). The status information is given to the acquired isochronous channel ID (S504), and a status request source is informed of the isochronous channel ID (S502). In the case that the status information has already been broadcast in the S502, the processing proceeds to the S505 without any processing and the status information request source is informed of the channel ID.
