PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove frost generated inside in a short time. SOLUTION: A centrifugal expansion machine 1 is provided with a housing 25 having a spiral channel 39 with a cross sectional area increasing along a fluid traveling direction and an impeller 31 provided rotatably inside the housing, wherein a compressed refrigerant flows through the channel 39 along the fluid travelling direction and is cooled by adiabatic expansion rotating the impeller 31, and provided are defrosting means 5 for heating and removing frost sticking onto the channel 39 and the impeller 31.
