PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify an applying process of a soft elastomer covered article to a roller. SOLUTION: This roller is constituted of a metal core 1, the soft elastomer covered article 2 and two hard neck parts 3, 3' and has a hard conical layer 4 of a hard elastomer and a support body rigid, conical and slightly expandable between the metal core 1 and the elastomer covered layer 2. A clearance to allow movement of the support body in the cross direction on the hard elastomer is formed between the hard elastomer layer 4 and the support body 5 by circulating compressed air.
