PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance image reader with that can read a sharp image by avoiding the floating of an original on an image read means, and to provide an image-forming apparatus. SOLUTION: An original is swollen, due to the stiffness of the original itself, when the original passes through a curved part 19a of a bent carrying path. Thus, the close contact of an original onto an image read sensor 5 placed at an outer edge of the curved part 19a is improved, and defective reading of an image is avoided. Provision of the curved part 19a to the carrying path and elimination of the floating of the original prevent an external light from gain entry into a gap between the image read sensor 5 and the original. Consequently, the read image is prevented from becoming unclear and a sharp image can be obtained.
