PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To converge the estimation of a coefficient of an adaptive filter also with respect to a colored reference signal by updating the coefficient of the adaptive filter by a linear prediction circuit, etc., for executing linear predicting analysis to the reference signal and outputting its predictive residual. SOLUTION: This device consists of a signal transmitting system 1 whose characteristic is unknown, an adaptive filter 2, a coefficient updating circuit 3, first and second arithmetic circuits 4 and 5, and a linear prediction circuit 6. The system 1 whose characteristic is unknown receives a reference signal Xj and generates a response gj. The filter 2 receives the signal Xj and generates an output Gj corresponding to a coefficient of a pseudo echo signal, etc. The circuit 3 updates the coefficient of the filter 2. The circuit 4 generates a signal yj obtained by superimposing noise nj to the response gj. An arithmetic circuit 5 subtracts the output Gj of the filter 2 from the signal yj to generate a residual Ej. The circuit 6 executes linear predictive analysis to the signal Xj and outputs its predictive residual.
