PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable communication terminal that can switch a conversion direction for voice character conversion depending on the setting of an operator, independently of transmission reception operation. SOLUTION: An antenna 1 sends/receives a radio signal to/from a base station and a radio section 2 encodes/decodes the radio signal sent/received by the antenna 1. A speech control section 3 forms a speech path with an opposite party. A voice character conversion changeover section 6 converts a sent/ received character into a sent/received voice or vice versa and produces a conversion path. A display section 7 displays a character message converted from character data or a voice at data input. A reply message storage section 8 stores a reply message by the character data registered and set in advance by an operator. A main control section 9 conducts protocol control and controls an entire communication terminal, such as user interface.
