PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detecting method of a vehicle sensor and a vehicle sensor monitoring device capable of improving the reliability of traffic data obtained by the vehicle sensor by easily judging an operation abnormality such as the deterioration of the sensing ability of the vehicle sensor. SOLUTION: A CPU 11 correlates the portion of time-sequential variation between with at least previous or post adjacent population with the traffic of a prescribed time unit measured by a vehicle sensor as one population through the use of counters C1 to C4 and storage areas for operation check (a line number storage area, a sensor number storage area, first/second traffic data storage area, a correlating result storage area, (etc.), provided in an internal memory (MEM) 12 in accordance with a vehicle sensor operation check processing routine (STA) included in a system monitoring program loaded to the memory (MEM) 12, and judges an abnormal operation of the respective vehicle sensors based on the correlation value.
