The invention relates to 1,2-di-imines with at least one nitrogen-heterocyclic ligand which is bonded to at least one of the two imine nitrogen atoms by a nitrogen atom; and to a method for producing said 1,2-di-imines. The invention also relates to metal complexes of these 1,2-di-imines with transition metals of groups 8, 9 or 10 of the periodic table, to a method for producing the same and to the use of the metal complexes as catalysts in a method for polymerizing unsaturated compounds. Finally, the invention relates to a method for producing polyolefins by polymerizing unsaturated compounds in the presence of an activator and a catalyst in the form of the metal complex.
