A color printer (Fig.1) that conducts an image from a surface of a CRT (142) through a graded index lens (146) to expose media. The CRT is mounted at an acute angle with respect to the media, to compensate for the graded index lens (146) focusing different colors at different distances. The graded index lens (146) is placed at a center of the acute angle (334). The CRT may have different phosphor (310, 312, 326) throughout the entire exposure area of the CRT and utilize color filters (432, 434, 436) to create each color being exposed.
