The invention relates to a setting device comprising a setting unit (SEG) for headlights or for a distance sensor of a vehicle and comprising an optical adjusting device (K1, K2, F, R, E) for aligning the setting unit (SEG) in relation to the vehicle. The aim of the invention is to achieve an improved alignment of the setting unit. To this end, the adjusting device (K1, K2, F, R, E) comprises an evaluation unit, is designed for determining the driving axis direction when starting the vehicle, and comprises means (E) for aligning the setting unit (SEG) with regard to the driving axis direction.
