The invention concerns a transportable device providing data, in particular tourist information, to a user, comprising at least: storage means (1), divided into sectors, each said sector corresponding to at least a specific geographical site and provided with an address; means for locating (2) said device, capable of delivering an information, called positioning data, corresponding to the site wherein said device is located; processing means (4), capable of producing reading instructions containing at least the address of the sector of the data to be supplied based on at least said positioning data, from one or several correspondence tables (6, 6') included in said device and associating at least the address of said sector and said positioning data concerning the same geographical site; means for reading (7) at least data contained in the sector displaying the address of said reading instructions, which is delivered to them by said processing means (4), called selected data; broadcasting means (9) for transmitting said selected data, so as to supply to the user messages concerning at least the site where they are located.
