PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the boundary line of an image area and a non-image area hardly detectable, which is generated by the light emitting characteristic deterioration of a phosphor in a display element, and the display mark of a character or a sign by slightly changing the size of an image in a specified aspect ratio in a vertical direction in the case of a second mode. SOLUTION: When the second mode is selected by the mode change-over key of an operation key group 12, a deflection circuit 7 reduces a vertical deflection width by 75% by a mode control signal and supplies a deflection signal for reducing the image size of the vertical direction to 75% to a deflection york 5 through a deflection drive circuit 8. As the result of it, the image in the 16:9 aspect ratio is displayed on a display screen in the 4:3 aspect ratio in a receiver 4 in a state where the non-image areas without scanning of an electronic beam are formed at the upper end and the lower end of the display screen of the receiver 4. Then the 16:9 image is correctly displayed with a roundness 1 so that the boundary line is hardly detected.
