Plastic coating for dynamically stressed cylindrical, curved or spherical surfaces has a thickness (T) of 1-100 mm and comprises a thermoplastic matrix with 0.1-70 vol% reinforcing fibres more than 0.1 mm long with a diameter of 3-500 microns, more than 30 (preferably more than 45) % of which are oriented at less than 70 (preferably less than 45) deg to the T direction. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a process for the production of plastic coatings by laying down and melting an extruded, fibre-filled plastic cord or strip on a substrate; (b) a process for the production of plastic coatings from annular discs of fibre-filled thermoplastic by welding, adhesively bonding or sintering such discs on a substrate.
