The method involves using successively constructed stages to determine the speed characteristic, in which a maximum speed is not exceeded over a minimum range. The method extends in a first stage over the entire path to the next stopping point or all NC batches known up to this point. In the next stage the method extends only over parts of the path to NC batches enabling a speed increase and performing the method until there is no batch in which an increase in the speed characteristic can be made.
