PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the size of a room more accurately than before quickly even by an amateur, by putting a measuring element in a room, and measuring an angle and a distance in a straight line up to the measuring element of the room. SOLUTION: This measuring machine 1 has a freely-rotatable measuring element 5 on a machine base 4, and the measuring element 5 is provided with a rotary encoder 3 for measuring an angle, and a distance measuring means 2 which measures distance in a straight line with a laser. This measuring machine 1 is put near the center of a room, and the measuring element 5 is rotated around a vertical shaft 10, and an angle and distance in a straight line from each measuring point of the room up to the measuring element 5 are measured with the distance means 2 and the rotary encoder 3, and the geometry of the room is measured. These measured values are corrected, and the corrected measured values are recorded. The recorded data is read with an IC card, etc., and transmitted to a tatami mat manufacturing machine such as a vicious tatami mat sewing machine, etc. Consequently, it becomes possible to measure the geometry of the room precisely in a short time without spending labor, only by performing operation in the center part of the room even by an amateur.
