PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display capable of being easily made into a fiat panel, having a large display area, and manufactured easily by providing an envelope comprising an electron emitting element, a phosphor membrane, and a getter for holding the degree of vacuum in the envelope, and fixing the getter in the envelope with an inorganic adhesive. SOLUTION: A luminescent substrate 12 is provided with a glass substrate 15, an anode 16, and a phosphor film 17. An electron emitting substrate 13 is provided with a glass substrate 18, a cathode side wire 19, an electron emitting element, 20, an insulating layer 21, an extraction electrode 22, and a getter 24 fixed to the glass substrate 18 by an inorganic adhesive 23. A getter film is preferably formed by evaporating the getter fixed in an envelope by the inorganic adhesive to function as electric wiring. The inorganic adhesive is the glass formed by the hydrolysis reaction of metal alkoxide, and the metal alkoxide preferably contains silicon alkoxide as a main component.
